I have amazing taste.
I awoke on this, the morning of my second wedding anniversary, to find that the first message I got on Twitter (a DM) was a love note from my husband.
(insert hard day of work here)
I arrived back at home, and opened the door to find that the house had been cleaned and vacuumed, the sheets washed, and spring rolls were in the oven almost ready to go. And now? We're on our way to one of our favourite romantic spots to eat, Cabotto's, so that I can have their amazing linguini aragosta....mmmmmm that lobster is gonna be SO GOOD!
And I won't mention the card. My guy's a real guy guy, so telling me verbally how he feels is challenging sometimes, but boy, he can write me to sentimental tears.
I, simply put, have excellent taste in men, or one, in particular.
Sexy bikini beach volleyball games soon to be replaced - ahem - NOW replaced by shovels, pails and sandcastles, and two little ones eating sand. Join me on the journey!

A new move
I'm calling it the 'reality flip'. Too many damn reality shows on at the same time! Do I want to watch next top model or celebrity jungle crap or models and athletes kayaking through a resort lazy river? GOD! So many GREAT options!!!
Really. If you are going to do reality, can we PLEASE make it a little more compelling PULEEEEASE?
At least tomorrow night I have SYTYCD! Can't wait. Last week my favourite dance by far was one that also had a very personal resonance with me. It was a contemporary number that used the music I chose as the first dance between my husband and I at our wedding reception. The song, Falling Slowly, I first heard while watching the movie "Juno" (great movie), and it just spoke to me. The lyrics are incredible, and really seemed to capture, poetically, the journey my husband and I have taken together, and the optimism we both have for our future together. It was lovely.

Watch and enjoy the beauty that is the best reality show amid a sea of wasted time.

Shopping on a grand scale
It's a uniquely energizing and slightly anxiety-laden experience to spend big-time dollars on big ticket items. Like cars. Like houses. Like NEW KITCHENS! It's a unique feeling, and it is soooooo goooooood!
Husband and I had a hot date with our kitchen reno sales gal (woooohooo, a threesome for my hubby finally!) tonight to see the 3D design of the new kitchen, and go over to confirm all that we were visualizing. Not only did we love it, but it was much less than we expected to pay - and if the idea of a new kitchen feels good, spending less than you thought you would pay is simply orgasmic! Everything was so little, that we chose to upgrade further to thicker granite even. AND, it is all another 15% off right now...
Gosh... this is the best date night I have had in a long time!
Good start to the weekend - hope you have a great one.

and then there were two
I missed my man. He was away on a conference for four nights and five days, and although I used to LOVE living on my own and even today, generally love my freedoms in life, I think the timing wasn't the best, and overall I wanted him closer. So yeah...it is great to have him here again.
Even if he is upstairs at the computer and I am down here in front of the television.
Such intimacy!

Hitting the gym
Only to watch, though! Time to head to my husband's volleyball final matches. You know, this city has pretty exceptional sporting opportunities, and the sport of volleyball is so well organized that its biggest league, the OCVL, has hundreds of teams and is so big that up in the top tier, there are former national team players, and the finals are actually televised! That said, you have to have a full team of pretty exceptional players to be at the top, obviously, and both I and my husband, although very competitive players, are this year not in the top tier. His team finished near the top of the second, or B, division, and play their match just after the initial A division match. It is bloody good ball, and we know a lot of the players in a lot of the teams, so it should be fun to go and take in all the matches this afternoon. And I have to say that I find it incredibly sexy to watch my man play and see him smash the ball down or block an opposing hard hit. Am I wrong ladies? How sexy is it to watch the man you love play a sport with authority?
Or maybe my life has, for the most part, been all about sports, so it is a personal little turn on?

The pendulum swings
To the other side. How did I go from Sunday's happy shopping day to this stinky, smarmy, snufly cold? Ick. But props to my hubby, who has cooked dinner (BBQ pork chops marinated in a rosemary and blood orange marinade - yup I am a lucky woman), is now doing dishes, and who plans to run out to get me a binge item to make me feel better.

love letter to my husband
no fancy poetry. Just stark, intense, honest love and thanks to a wonderful man, a phenomenal friend, an exceptional partner and husband, and an excellent smoker of meat on the BBQ. It has been a great first year of marriage, not without its emotional challenges (as many know), but he's my rock, my roll, and my partner in crime.
Here's to the many years piling up, one on top of another, to create a lifetime of experiences and memories that, when we look back, will make us cry at the big moments and laugh at the inside jokes, and that will contribute, day in and day out, to our love's solid foundations.
I love you like I love no other.
Happy 1-year anniversary.

Catty claws and reality romance
Ah...the women tell all episode of The Bachelor. Okay, what? The old singles from all the old episodes of Bachelor/Bachelorette get together and GET TOGETHER? Actually....they all are perfect for each other. They all should join the Beautiful People website. Awwww...there's real love there! wow, that is cheezy.
So. who's it going to be? He's either going to make the wrong choice and go with the cutesy girl-woman Melissa, or he'll go with the wide-eyed balanced and much too good for him Molly. I just don't know what it is, but this Jason dude is trying much too hard to look perfect, and I am not biting. I mean, I seem to recall that Jason's home during his first appearance with Deanna was a normal apartment on LAND, and not a Sleapless in Seattle love boat, don't you? And he never seems to mention that he has shared custody with his boy, and isn't the 24-7 single sacrificing Pappy that he claims to be. I really liked my gal pal Jillian from northern Alberta, though. She came from Peace River, which is really close to where my Mom grew up, in a small wheat town called Hythe, near Beaverlodge (yup, you guessed it. They have a massive sculpture of a beaver as you enter town).
Well...the ladies are finally going to weigh in. Here we go - release the jungle cats and sharpen the claws....!!!

And we wonder why guys sometimes refer to women as psycho bitches?
So...another fun night of watching the world's worst reality show (or one of the bottom dwellers - there are worse, I guess)...the Bachelor! Our little dental hygenist is a little "restraining orderish" ain't she? The group date ladies are a little snotty from crying so much and our Jason seems bewildered. Could it be because they were all on the set of General Hospital as our Bachelor swapped spit with the ladies multiple times over and with multiple partners?
Yeah...true love will prevail - I am sure of it!
I feel so NORMAL when I watch these shows!
Oooooo....Here's a quotation for you..."You've met a man, you've married him and had his kid, and then he died. It's my turn!"....LOVE. IT.

Ah...Bromance....
So yeah...the guys are now camping and a life coach has been brought in to dig down into their consciousness and get to know their sensitive side. There's love in the group, apparently.
By the way, as background, I love the worst of the worst reality tv shows. They rock. So bad, they're good. MTV has become a regular channel on at our house, with suck (sic) gems as The City, Bromance, and of course, A Double Shot at Love with, as mentioned in a previous post, bisexual (not buying that) twins looking for luuuurve....
Ah... the boys have issues with their Mommies. Really. Scintillating stuff, my friends....truly.
So. Euchre tournament at our favourite local pub tonight - looking forward to it. The Blackburn Arms - where everyone knows your name. Let's hope I win some money (to cover the alcohol and food bill)!

Double Breast Strokes?
Yes, yes, yes! 76 laps of the pool in 45 minutes, with a mix of butterfly, egg-beater drills, sprints and breast stroke, front crawl and back stroke, followed by 10 minutes in a nice, hot sauna at my new "health club"...and I am happy. Add that to some good wine and conversation after work (oh...yeah, did I mention drinks?) with coworkers, and it was a good day. A great way to ease into the weekend, and a good way to remind myself that even amongst changes in our team, there are still some faaaabulous teammates around me.
In particular, I have two girlfriends, soon to be my immediate neighbours, who are single and looking for guys. What fun! I want to hear about their escapades and see what vicarious living I can do through them, but also, see if I can help somehow (???). And, I have to say, one of them said something that she may not have realized meant a hill of beans to me, but in fact gave me a major boost and made me feel wonderful. It is nice to get an insight into how others see you and realize that they see you in a really great light, when you doubt yourself. Why do we do that? Why not believe that others think we're great first, and only doubt it when we find out otherwise? ah....lack of confidence...the root of all evil.
In any event, it was a great way to lead off the weekend, and with a shout out to my great girlfriends at work, I bid you a great weekend!
Now...time to pour another glass of wine, and watch a little What Not to Wear (and maybe a little Miss America crap - I told you there would be some bad reality TV on this blog. BTW - anyone get a kick out of Double Shot at Love like we do? It is crappy, hideously bad reality TV with two sexy blond bisexual [yeah, whatever!] chicks looking for "love"....).

Swooning with embarassment
Confessions of a readaholic...it all started with...um...well, I guess Disney books, but quickly graduated to The Bobbsey Twins and the Three Investigator series (did anyone read these? They were MUCH better than Nancy Drew and the B Twins), but then the rails fell off. I fell in love with romance novels. First it was the teen novels (I confess to keeping one or two of my personal faves, which I will still read every few years and laugh at how much I dreamt of the guys and the situations in them), and then it was the trashiest of the trash - all at the ages of 14-17 or so. Hell....I still love a good romance, but it is usually couched in the more 'acceptable' genre of Chick Lit. I love it. I also love bad romance reality shows like The Bachelor, which is what inspired this flip backwards through the pages. Such crap (and given that I worked in the film and television industry for about 5 or so years, I am WELL aware of the staging and often picture the crews and sound boom guys and equipment all around these people...mmmmmmm...romantic!) but y'know, after a long day at work, and a tough, tough workout, relaxing on the couch to mindless drivel is a great pastime, I think. What about you? What is your embarassing obsession? What mindless drivel do you most love watching on television to relax?
